Apple’s long-anticipated transition to an all-screen iPhone may finally become reality—just not all at once. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to implement the change in two distinct phases, beginning as early as 2025.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman states that next year’s iPhones will feature a smaller version of the Dynamic Island. Then, in 2026, Apple is expected to unveil a dramatic redesign to mark the iPhone’s 20th anniversary. This model is said to include ultra-slim bezels, curved glass edges, and a fully seamless display—delivering the first true all-screen experience on an iPhone.
Adding to the momentum, a recent report by The Information’s Wayne Ma suggests the iPhone 18 Pro models will debut with under-screen Face ID and retain only a small punch-hole for the front camera, eliminating the need for the pill-shaped Dynamic Island. This may contrast Gurman’s report slightly, but both agree Apple is inching closer to a notch-free future.
Since the iPhone X’s debut in 2017, Apple has steadily pushed the envelope—first replacing Touch ID with Face ID and the notch, and later introducing the Dynamic Island with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022. If current reports hold true, Apple’s full-screen dream will be realized by 2027 with a groundbreaking blend of under-display tech and elegant design.
For now, fans will have to wait as Apple continues its methodical approach to design innovation.
