Google is preparing a significant redesign of its Gemini app, introducing a fresh user interface and rethinking how users interact with its AI-powered assistant. The update, which has been in testing for months, aims to modernize the experience across platforms with a cleaner layout and enhanced functionality.
New Homepage With Simplified Prompt Experience
One of the biggest changes in the redesign is the homepage. The Gemini app now features a pill-shaped prompt box that makes interactions feel more streamlined and intuitive.
Voice input and Gemini Live options are positioned on the right side, while a new “+” button opens a bottom sheet for quick access to:
- Photos
- Camera
- Recent images
- Files
- Notebooks
- Additional uploads
This unified input system simplifies how users share and interact with content inside the app.
Centralized Tools With Better Accessibility
The redesigned interface introduces a more organized way to access Gemini’s tools. Users will now find a dedicated list featuring:
- Image generation
- Video tools
- Music creation
- Canvas workspace
- Deep research
- Guided learning
Each tool includes a short description, making it easier for users to understand and explore capabilities without confusion.
Refined Visual Design With Gradient Effects
Google is also focusing heavily on aesthetics. The new design includes a vibrant, pulsating gradient background that enhances the overall look and feel of the app.
A personalized greeting — “Hi, what’s on your mind?” — is now centered on the screen, with the Gemini spark icon placed above it for a more engaging entry point.
When users enter prompts, the gradient background becomes more dynamic, adding a visually appealing touch to conversations.
Improved Navigation and Layout Changes
Navigation has also been updated for better usability:
- The model picker returns to the top-left corner as a dropdown menu
- A temporary chat button is easily accessible
- The account switcher has been moved to the bottom of the navigation drawer
- New iconography features thin, rounded outlines for a modern look
These changes aim to make the interface cleaner and more intuitive.
Chat Enhancements and Thought Process View
Inside conversations, Google has refined how users access AI reasoning. The “See thinking steps” option is now located in the overflow menu, and when selected, it appears as a bottom sheet rather than cluttering the main chat interface.
This keeps conversations clean while still offering transparency into Gemini’s responses.
iOS Gets Advanced Visual Upgrade With Liquid Glass
On iOS, the redesign takes things further by incorporating Liquid Glass design elements, offering smoother animations and a more polished visual experience.
While Android users are still waiting to see how these changes will fully translate, early reports suggest the redesign is currently limited to a small group of iOS users.
Limited Rollout for Now
The new Gemini UI is not widely available yet and appears to be rolling out gradually. As Google continues testing, more users across platforms can expect to receive the update in the coming weeks.
