Gemini App Update Makes Sharing More Prominent in Chats, Boosts Icon Design

Gemini App

Google Gemini has introduced a refreshed chat interface on Android, focusing on making sharing conversations easier while improving overall navigation. The update brings noticeable layout adjustments designed to streamline access to key actions.

Gemini Chat Interface Gets a Practical Redesign

The latest update to the Gemini app on Android reorganizes the top bar for a more conventional user experience.

Previously, the chat title appeared centered at the top of the screen. Tapping it opened a bottom sheet menu with additional options, while the “New Chat” button sat separately in the top-right corner.

With the new redesign:

  • The chat title is now left-aligned.
  • The New Chat button appears next to the title.
  • A dedicated Share icon is placed prominently on the top bar.
  • The traditional three-dot overflow menu sits beside the Share button.

This layout aligns more closely with standard Android app design patterns, making navigation feel more familiar to users.

Sharing Conversations Is Now Faster

One of the biggest changes is the enhanced visibility of the Share button. Instead of being buried within menus, the Share icon now allows users to:

  1. Instantly generate a shareable link.
  2. Open the system share sheet immediately.
  3. Quickly distribute conversations via messaging, email, or other apps.

This move signals Google’s intent to make conversation sharing a core part of the Gemini experience, especially as AI-generated insights become more collaborative and shareable.

However, some users may find the top bar slightly crowded, as the Share and overflow icons sit side-by-side alongside other navigation elements.

Overflow Menu Still Houses Key Options

The three-dot overflow menu continues to provide access to important conversation management tools, including:

  • Pin
  • Rename
  • Delete
  • Help
  • Feedback

While functional, some may argue that placing the Share button inside the overflow menu could reduce visual clutter.

iOS Version Gets a Larger Gemini Spark Icon

The update isn’t limited to Android. The iOS version of the Gemini app has also received a visual tweak.

In a recent update, the Gemini spark icon has been enlarged. The sparkle now sits closer to the edges of its rounded-square background, creating a bolder and more balanced look. The refreshed icon design aligns more closely with the visual identity seen across other Google applications.

Web Version Reflects Similar Changes

The web version at gemini.google.com also features side-by-side Share and overflow icons, maintaining UI consistency across platforms. However, not all interface changes are mirrored identically between Android and iOS versions.

The latest Gemini app update focuses on usability and visibility. By prioritizing sharing and adopting a more familiar top-bar layout, Google is refining the app’s user experience while keeping conversation management tools easily accessible.

Although the redesign may feel slightly crowded to some users, it clearly emphasizes faster sharing and streamlined navigation—key features as AI chat tools continue to evolve into collaborative platforms.
