Google Expands Gemini Integration in Chrome to India

Gemini

Google is expanding the reach of its AI-powered assistant Gemini by integrating it into the Chrome browser for users in India, Canada, and New Zealand. The new rollout introduces a sidebar-based interface on desktop, allowing users to interact with Gemini directly while browsing.

With this update, users can ask questions about on-screen content, summarize articles, compare information across multiple tabs, and access insights from Google services such as Gmail, Drive, Keep, and YouTube without leaving the browser.

Gemini in Chrome Now Supports Multiple Indian Languages

One of the major highlights of the expansion is support for several Indian languages. Alongside English, Gemini in Chrome will now support languages including:

  • Hindi
  • Bengali
  • Gujarati
  • Kannada
  • Malayalam
  • Marathi
  • Telugu
  • Tamil

This move is expected to make Google’s AI tools more accessible to millions of users in India who prefer interacting in regional languages.

How Gemini Works Inside Chrome

Users who receive the feature will notice a new “Ask Gemini” icon appearing in the Chrome tab bar. Clicking the icon opens the Gemini sidebar, where users can interact with the AI assistant.

Through the sidebar, users can:

  • Ask questions about the content on a webpage
  • Summarize articles or documents
  • Generate quizzes to better understand a topic
  • Compare information across multiple tabs

The cross-tab functionality is particularly useful when researching products, comparing travel options, or reviewing multiple sources of information.

Integration With Google Apps for Smarter Assistance

Gemini in Chrome also connects with several Google apps to deliver personalized and context-aware responses. It can pull relevant information from services such as:

  • Gmail
  • Google Maps
  • Google Calendar
  • YouTube

For example, users can compose and send emails directly from the Gemini sidebar without switching tabs. The AI assistant can also summarize YouTube videos and highlight key points with timestamp markers, making it easier to digest long content.

Additionally, Gemini can help organize daily tasks by scheduling meetings or providing summaries of upcoming events from the user’s calendar.

Image Transformation With Nano Banana 2

Google has also integrated its Nano Banana 2 generative AI tool within Gemini in Chrome. This feature allows users to upload images and modify them using AI.

For instance, someone planning to buy furniture can upload a photo of their room and ask Gemini to generate a preview showing how a new piece might look in the space.

Availability on Desktop and iOS

While the desktop version features the sidebar interface, Google is also rolling out Gemini support in Chrome for iOS users in India. On iOS devices, the feature appears through a page tools icon in the browser’s address bar.

Advanced AI Features Limited to the U.S.

Earlier this year, Google introduced advanced “agentic” AI capabilities that allow Gemini to control parts of the browser and perform tasks automatically for users. However, these features remain limited to AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers in the United States.

For now, the newly added regions—including India, Canada, and New Zealand—will receive the core Gemini tools without these automated browser capabilities.
