Google’s NotebookLM Now Creates AI-Narrated Slideshows with New Video Overviews Feature

Google’s NotebookLM is rolling out a powerful new tool called Video Overviews, which uses AI to generate narrated slideshow presentations from your existing documents. Initially launching in English, the feature allows users to transform text-based material into engaging visual summaries. Google confirmed that support for more languages is on the way.

“You can think of these as a visual alternative to audio overviews,” Google explained in its blog post. The AI-powered host generates new visual elements and incorporates images, diagrams, quotes, and data directly from your files. This format is designed to be particularly effective for explaining complex data, demonstrating step-by-step processes, or visualizing abstract concepts.

In a demo, the Video Overviews feature includes user-friendly playback controls, such as the ability to skip forward or backward by 10 seconds and to adjust the playback speed, making the learning experience more flexible.

Alongside Video Overviews, Google is also introducing updates to NotebookLM’s Studio tab—the hub where users can generate Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, study guides, and briefing documents. The most significant improvement is the ability to create and store multiple outputs of the same type within a single notebook. For example, you can now generate multiple Audio Overviews based on different parts of your content, all kept together in one workspace.

Google is also giving the Studio tab a visual redesign, featuring four prominent tiles at the top for quick access to Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, Mind Maps, and Reports. These updates are expected to roll out to all users over the next few weeks.

As Google continues expanding NotebookLM’s capabilities, users can expect more AI-powered formats in the future to make research, learning, and content creation even more dynamic.
