Instagram Tests Reposts Feature to Boost Content Sharing

Instagram

Instagram is finally testing a reposts feature, allowing users to reshare content directly to their feed, according to confirmation. The feature has been in quiet development since 2022, and it’s now appearing for select users.

This functionality is expected to streamline how content is shared on the platform, making it easier to amplify posts without relying on third-party apps or temporary Story sharing. Users may also be able to repost their own content, in addition to posts from others.

Currently, Instagram only allows sharing content via Stories, but the new feature will mimic the retweet functionality popularized by Twitter, as well as similar tools on Threads and TikTok.

While some users may appreciate the added convenience, others may view it as adding more clutter to an already packed interface that includes Feed posts, Stories, Reels, Notes, and DMs.

For creators, the repost feature could prove valuable by increasing reach and visibility for original content. It may also help ensure that credit is given where it’s due, curbing the widespread practice of resharing uncredited memes and images.

Instagram has not yet confirmed a full rollout timeline. Like with all test features, broader availability will likely depend on user response and internal performance data.
