Meta has introduced a new software update for its AI-powered smart glasses, bringing features designed to improve real-world listening and entertainment experiences. The update enhances conversation clarity in noisy environments and introduces an innovative way to play music based on what users are seeing.
The new capabilities will initially roll out to Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses, starting in select regions.
Clearer Conversations in Noisy Places
One of the most practical additions is a conversation-focused audio feature that helps users hear voices more clearly in crowded or loud settings. Using the glasses’ open-ear speakers, the system amplifies the voice of the person directly in front of the wearer while minimizing background noise.
Users can fine-tune the amplification level by swiping the right temple of the glasses or adjusting settings within the companion app. This flexibility allows the glasses to adapt to various environments, such as busy restaurants, public transport, bars, or social gatherings.
The feature was first previewed earlier this year and is now becoming available through the latest software update.
Music Playback Based on What You See
In addition to audio enhancements, Meta is also experimenting with contextual entertainment. The update allows users to play music through Spotify based on their current view.
For example, looking at an album cover can trigger a song by that artist, while festive visuals like decorated trees and gifts can prompt seasonal music. While this feature is more playful in nature, it highlights Meta’s broader goal of linking visual input with app-based actions.
Availability and Rollout Details
The conversation-boost feature will initially be limited to users in the United States and Canada. However, the visual-based Spotify music feature supports English and will be available across multiple international markets, including India, the U.K., Europe, Australia, and parts of the Middle East.
The update is part of software version 21 and will first be accessible to users enrolled in Meta’s Early Access Program. A wider rollout is expected in the coming weeks.
A Step Forward for Wearable AI
With these updates, Meta continues to position smart glasses as practical AI-powered accessories rather than novelty gadgets. By focusing on real-life use cases such as clearer conversations and intuitive entertainment, the company is pushing wearable technology closer to everyday adoption.
As testing expands and feedback rolls in, these features could play a key role in shaping the future of AI-enabled eyewear.
