Samsung Unveils Galaxy Z TriFold—Its First-Ever Trifold Smartphone and a Major Leap in Foldable Tech

Samsung

Samsung has entered a new era of foldable innovation with the launch of the Galaxy Z TriFold, its first smartphone featuring a dual-hinge trifold design. The device folds from both sides to transition between a standard smartphone format and a 10-inch tablet-style display, marking one of the largest screen sizes yet in the foldable category.

The Galaxy Z TriFold debuts in South Korea on December 12, priced at 3.59 million won (about $2,450). It is scheduled to expand to additional global markets, including the United States, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and the United Arab Emirates.

A New Step for Foldable Devices

Designed to showcase Samsung’s leadership in display engineering, the Galaxy Z TriFold represents a new subcategory of folding phones. While foldable devices remain a niche segment globally, Samsung continues to dominate the space and is now pushing the market further with its most advanced form factor yet.

Analysts indicate that the TriFold is not focused on mass-volume sales in its early stage, but rather on demonstrating the company’s long-term technological direction and solidifying its position in next-generation mobile design.

From Smartphone to Tablet Instantly

When closed, the Galaxy Z TriFold functions like a standard smartphone with an outer display for everyday use. When fully unfolded, the device transforms into a 10-inch workspace, useful for entertainment, gaming, browsing, and professional productivity.

Each panel can run a separate application independently, allowing users to operate the equivalent of three smartphones side by side. Thanks to Samsung’s refined DeX experience, the TriFold also delivers a desktop-style interface on its inner display, capable of operating up to four distinct workspaces with multiple apps running simultaneously.

Durability, Design and All-Day Power

Samsung has reinforced the dual hinges, strengthened the frame with upgraded aluminum, and improved display materials to enhance long-term durability. The company is additionally offering a one-time 50% discount on display repairs for added consumer confidence.

Despite its large format, the TriFold remains remarkably slim at 3.9 mm at its thinnest point. Inside, it houses a 5,600 mAh battery, the largest capacity ever used in a Samsung foldable, offering up to 17 hours of continuous video playback when the display is fully opened.

AI-Powered Experience

The Galaxy Z TriFold comes equipped with Samsung’s latest Galaxy AI features, including:

  • Generative Edit
  • Photo Assist
  • Writing Assist
  • Real-time content enhancements

Early buyers will also receive a six-month trial of Google AI Pro to complement Samsung’s AI suite.

Future of the Galaxy Ecosystem

Sales of Samsung’s recent foldables have been trending upward, and the TriFold is expected to reinforce the brand’s leadership ahead of its next flagship smartphone lineup launch in early 2025.

With the Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung is signaling the arrival of a new generation of mobile form factors—blending smartphone convenience, tablet productivity, and AI intelligence into one device.
