Samsung to End Messages App in July, Shifts Users to Google Messages

Samsung to End Messages App in July

Samsung has announced that it will discontinue its Samsung Messages app by July 2026, marking the end of its native messaging service. The company is encouraging users to switch to Google Messages as the default alternative.

This decision is part of Samsung’s ongoing shift toward Google’s messaging ecosystem. Google Messages supports RCS (Rich Communication Services), which offers a more advanced texting experience compared to traditional SMS. Users can send high-quality photos and videos, see typing indicators in real time, and enjoy improved group chats across different devices and platforms.

Another key highlight of Google Messages is the integration of Gemini, which brings AI-powered features like smart replies and photo enhancements within chats. It also allows easier syncing of conversations across smartphones, tablets, and smartwatches.

Samsung has been gradually phasing out its messaging app for some time. Starting with newer devices, the company stopped pre-installing Samsung Messages and instead made Google Messages the default option. Although Samsung Messages is still available for download, it will be fully discontinued soon.

For users, switching to Google Messages ensures continued support, better features, and a more modern messaging experience.
