Xbox Consoles Now Support 1440p Streaming for Game Pass Ultimate Users

Xbox Consoles

Microsoft has officially rolled out 1440p game streaming support for Xbox consoles, giving subscribers a sharper and more immersive cloud gaming experience.

The update enhances one of the key benefits of Xbox Game Pass — game streaming — which now also includes titles players own, even if they are not part of the Game Pass library.

1440p Streaming Comes to Xbox Consoles

With this update, players using the following consoles can stream games at 1440p resolution:

  • Xbox Series X
  • Xbox Series S
  • Xbox One X
  • Xbox One

The higher bitrate streaming option allows for clearer visuals, provided both the game and the connected display support 1440p output.

Previously, 1440p streaming was limited to select smart TVs — including Fire TV, LG, and Samsung models — web browsers, and the Xbox PC app. Now, the feature is finally expanding to consoles, though it remains exclusive to Game Pass Ultimate subscribers for now.

Improvements to Xbox PC App

Microsoft is also enhancing the Xbox experience on PC. The updated Xbox PC app now includes new “navigation sounds” when users interact with the interface via a controller.

These subtle audio cues aim to make controller navigation feel more responsive and intuitive, improving accessibility and overall user experience.

Updates for ROG Xbox Ally Handhelds

The company is refining the experience on handheld gaming devices like the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.

Key updates include:

  • Simplified formatting for removable storage such as microSD cards
  • Driver updates to improve compatibility with select games

These improvements suggest Microsoft continues to invest in cross-platform gaming and portable experiences.

A Turbulent Week for Microsoft Gaming

The announcement comes during a significant leadership transition within Microsoft’s gaming division.

Former Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer recently announced his retirement. He will be succeeded by Asha Sharma, previously President of Microsoft’s CoreAI division.

Industry observers are divided on what this leadership change could mean for Xbox’s future strategy. With AI integration becoming increasingly central to Microsoft’s vision, more structural and product changes may be on the horizon.

What This Means for Xbox Players

The addition of 1440p streaming strengthens Xbox’s cloud gaming ecosystem, especially as competition intensifies in subscription-based gaming services.

For Game Pass Ultimate subscribers, the update delivers:

  • Higher-resolution streaming
  • Expanded access to owned titles
  • Better PC and handheld integration

As Microsoft continues evolving its gaming strategy, 1440p streaming represents a meaningful quality upgrade — and potentially a sign of bigger improvements ahead.
