Delta Air Lines will provide free Wi-Fi beginning on February 1

Free Wi-Fi on planes will soon be available to Delta Air Lines passengers.

On the airline’s “most popular routes,” more than 500 Delta planes will begin offering free wireless internet to passengers on February 1. T-Mobile and the new service are being offered together.

By the end of the year, the company said, there will be over 700 Delta planes with free Wi-Fi. By the end of 2024, the airline intends to make it available to all of its aircraft.

The announcement was first made on Thursday at CES 2023 by CEO Ed Bastian.

“At work, at home and everywhere in between, connectivity is essential to daily life, and your journey on Delta should be no different,” he said. “Our vision has long been to deliver an experience at 30,000 feet that feels similar to what our customers have available on the ground.”

Passengers who are using the airplane’s free Wi-Fi must use their SkyMiles number and password to connect. According to Delta, there will be a “new decal located near the boarding door” on planes with free Wi-Fi.

According to the airline, passengers will be able to connect to multiple devices simultaneously.

Since the beginning of 2021, Delta has partnered with Viasat Inc. to provide improved connectivity. “lay the groundwork toward a full, fast and free in-flight internet experience as well as future enhancements and personalization on customer seatback screens.” the airline said when it announced its partnership with Viasat.

Prior to that, tests for providing free Wi-Fi were reportedly carried out by the airline.

The Wall Street Journal reported last month, citing sources with knowledge of the situation, that Delta would begin providing free Wi-Fi in 2023.
