Google TV Apps Will Start Showing Pop-Ups Asking for Ratings

As part of its I/O 2025 announcements, Google is bringing a familiar mobile feature to the big screen—rating prompts for apps on Google TV and Android TV OS.

Just like on mobile devices, users will soon see pop-ups asking them to rate apps directly from their TVs. These prompts will allow viewers to leave star ratings using their remote or, alternatively, send the prompt to their phone where they can complete the review more easily, especially if they want to add text.

Google says that ratings and reviews are crucial for developers, offering valuable feedback on app performance and user experience. With this update, developers can now implement the rating pop-up feature in their apps to gather insights and boost visibility in the Play Store.

However, this feature won’t appear in every app right away. It’s up to developers to integrate the pop-up into their TV apps.

Along with pop-up reviews, Google is also updating the Google Play Store on Google TV to:

  • Display app ratings more prominently.
  • Allow users to leave reviews directly from the app listing on their TV.

This small but significant change is designed to help users share feedback easily while watching content and help developers better understand their audience. Whether you use your remote or smartphone, app reviews on Google TV are about to become more accessible than ever.
