In a move that could shake up the AI landscape, Google has quietly rolled out a major upgrade to its Gemini AI, allowing it to function as a true personal assistant. Unveiled at Google’s I/O event and now live for Gemini Pro and Ultra users, this update adds a powerful new feature: scheduled and recurring AI actions.
Gemini can now perform tasks at specific times, from summarizing your emails every morning to generating blog ideas every Monday. Whether you need reminders, summaries, or updates, Gemini can now proactively assist with your digital life—no prompt needed in the moment.
“Now you can wake up with a summary of your calendar and unread emails, or get a creative boost by having Gemini write five ideas for your blog every Monday,” said Dave Citron, senior director of product management for Gemini.
This enhancement pushes Gemini closer to becoming a true AI agent, surpassing traditional assistants like Apple’s Siri, which has struggled to keep pace. While Apple plans to revamp Siri, its AI rollout remains slow, and industry insiders suggest no major AI reveals at WWDC 2025.
With Google integrating Gemini into Search, Gmail, and even upcoming smart glasses, this update positions Gemini as a central hub for productivity and daily life. It’s a clear sign that Google isn’t just catching up in the AI race—it’s making a play to lead.
